The first thing is to enshrine yourself. The second thing about the master is that he needs a lot of worldly money to support his studies. That is the real introduction, the four major treatises, the Bodhisattva classics, and even Sanskrit, secret texts, a large number of special texts, ritual knowledge, secret instructions and mantras. Most of this knowledge is collected in temples. Most individuals cannot collect such a large amount of knowledge. Or, go to the chieftain's or Zongben noble's home to receive offerings - the Lu Feng chieftain's family can't go, so he can only go to the Zongben noble's home to become a monk.

Obtaining the degree of "Good Knowledge" will not elevate his status infinitely. He is just a guru who can give initiations to others, unless he goes to a larger temple, obtains a higher degree, and then comes back to the temple. Only if he is the dean of the Discipline Academy, or the dean of the college, or other monks and officials, can he have a respected status and be worshiped by others - a master with status as a monk and a master without a monk. The identity of the guru has two completely different identities in the temple.
