Final Thoughts (4)

Remarks after finishing the book (4)

I used to envy those authors who could write long novels and draw long comics.

I envy them that they can construct a fantasy world of their own.

However, after many attempts, I have to lament that I may indeed not have the ability to write a long work, at least not yet.

The reason why I say this is because I spent some time thinking carefully about whether writing a book is a joy or a burden for me.

In the end, my conclusion is that I am still very happy simply sharing an idea in my mind.

But updating every day for a long time makes me very painful.

My family used to ask me why I wrote so long, why didn’t I just finish it in 100,000 words?

I explained to my family that Qidian.com only started charging for articles of more than 100,000 words.

But I have to admit that what my family said is right.

Maybe because I am an idea writer, long-form serialization is a burden for me. The initial enthusiasm will be spent in daily updates day after day.

Moreover, long-term serialization will make my brain foggy, and I will slowly forget what is interesting.

Therefore, I made a decision to try to reduce the length of each book starting from the next book. From the beginning of the book, it was stated that it was a short story.

I think more than 300,000 words is about the same. After writing it in more than two months, I won’t get too bored, and I can steadily eat the recommendations after it was first published. If Qidian had not been released relatively late, I would have kept the article shorter.

If the response is good and I really want to make this book longer, then I can definitely write a "second volume". Take a month or two off between episodes.

Just like the model of physical books and movie trilogies/n-parts, one can be followed by the next after the response is good. You can take a break in the middle to sort out the outline and ideas. There is no need to keep serializing to avoid brain fog.

The only drawback is that comparison affects subscription revenue. But the problem is not big. Compared with writing a novel of 10 million words and more than 300,000 words, the proportion of paid chapters is only 50% higher. If you choose a topic right or wrong, your subscription may be several times worse.

Of course, this is just a very superficial idea, and it is different from the regular model of Qidian. I don’t know if it can be successful, so let’s just settle on it for now.

If it can really come up with something famous, it can be regarded as a model innovation for Qidian. (End of chapter)
