Chapter 8 Arriving at Gondwa VI
Diary
Written by: Corporal Alan Byer
Preface: When I realized that I was wandering in the boundless dark universe, I planned to write down something for future generations, especially since the long journey into subspace was unbearable for me.
Recorded on: After the 6th day of the subspace voyage.
Content: It has been almost six days since I left my home world. Apart from priests, praying, and strengthening my faith in the empire, I have nothing to do.
According to the manual, one day in subspace is equivalent to 12 days in the real physical universe. In this way, we have spent a little more than 2 months in the physical universe.
When the usual complicated training disappears, and you need to stay sane during the same days as being in jail, except for chatting, it is a basic game. There is not much space here, and this group of recruits have done all the childish things you can imagine.
Subspace travel is like this, you will never believe how boring it is, and the ship does not have much supplies, and the food is mostly synthetic food that lacks taste.
So I invented a new way to eat it, which was to use a personal heating device to mix greasy synthetic lunch meat as a seasoning with granola bars and any other military-issued snacks you could find.
It tasted good, and it made me happy for a long time, until the temperature of the heater accidentally blackened some of the metal in the ship's cabin, leaving me with a sense of sacrilege against the sacred machinery of the Empire.
During this time, Mr. John used glue to put together a photo of his fiancée, which is as good as ever.
Today is the first day of my record. I hope there will be more interesting things in the future... The God Emperor is above me.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Mr. John's big face pressed against his side, where there was no private space to describe.
After two months of training, he performed outstandingly in the later stages. Now he is a corporal and assumes the task of commanding the team leader in this room.
Alan Bayer closed the diary and combed his waist again. "I am recording my life, although he may leave soon."
John lay on the bed bored. "Don't be so pessimistic, the God-Emperor bless you, my friend."
Alan Bair sighed. "You don't understand, you have a fiancée, and the most beautiful woman I've seen since the beginning of my military career is a cyborg."
John said something meaningful. "Sometimes, not being able to see her makes it even more painful. I envy you."
Their gossip was quickly heard by others in the ship. They were a fierce man, 1.9 meters tall. He was somewhat mutated due to the ecology of the hive city, but his skull was still human.
His name is Kailan, and he is the heavy weapons team in this squad. There is only one team in a team. He also bears a noble heavy bolter, and he will be the best support in the team.
But this hunk has a problem...he...
"Oh my god, what you said is so touching. I really want to take you back to her."
"By the way, Mr. Platoon Leader, how is the progress between Miss Mechanic Priest you mentioned last time and you?"
He wiped the seat cushion with a handkerchief and leaned next to the two of them to chat.
Yes, this 1.9-meter-tall macho man is unexpectedly slender at heart and likes to gossip, but Alan Bayer is not worried about his combat effectiveness. When you see him holding a heavy machine gun alone, firing bombs in succession, making everything visible to the naked eye Things were beaten to festering with his delicate attention.
You will feel really at ease having such teammates.
But Alan Beyer still emphasized. "She and I just know each other, don't think too much about it!"
So the topic quickly turned to how to clean up the greenskins, the aliens and the heretics. This topic was broader, and the entire class members started chatting.
Some people started to arm-wrestle again and show off their biceps. This is the manly military life. For now, they are just "young".
Maybe they will die while traveling in subspace, maybe the whole ship will sail to the space of the four gods, maybe it will take them a long time to reach their destination.
When Alan Bayer was thinking wildly, that familiar yet unfamiliar trembling feeling came over him.
The people in the cabin immediately stood up and looked at each other again, and John boldly asked. "Platoon commander, is this what it feels like?"
Alan Bair answered uncertainly. "It's like, it's so similar, it's the feeling that Geller's position is closed, we have arrived in the physical universe!"
After a while, the broadcast came on.
"The members of the Third Skadi Infantry Regiment listened to the order and began to pack their things. We have reached our destination, and we have reached the orbit above our destination."
"This trip took us three months, again, it took us three months!"
The broadcast was repeated three or four times, because Alan Bair needed to pack his things and didn't remember clearly, but he was a little scared again. What if the landing encounters the enemy's orbital defense force, what if they encounter the Ork space hulk. So what...
A sense of powerlessness permeates the Warhammer universe forever, and the more he knows, the less he can be as relaxed as others.
When the class was packed up and people were sitting on the empty beds, John couldn't help shouting. "I can finally leave this corridor!"
Kellan seemed more relaxed. "I thought you were used to the narrowness of the hive."
John took a moment to reply. "Of course, of course I'm used to it, I just don't like the feeling in the boat..."
Alan Bayer guessed that John's hometown was probably in good condition, with a family capable of taking photos and a beautiful fiancée. He couldn't help but feel a little envious, and "corridor" was their joking name for this room.
Just like everyone in the 3rd Infantry Regiment would call Alan Beyer, nicknamed "The Boy Who Lived" or "Flying Snake Boy".
Alan Bair scolded them. "Stop making trouble, grab your things, don't lose them, line up now!"
The people on duty lined up in a row, and at this moment they could clearly feel the battleship moving in the physical universe, which also showed that the position deviation must not be far. They did not even drive the sublight engine, but just moved forward at the normal speed of the battleship.
In other words, the distance between the two planets is not very large, about 2-5 light years, and can be easily reached with the help of an astropath.
But... Alan Bayer couldn't help but think that half a year ago, his concept of light years was still out of reach. Now, because of subspace, it only took him six days to cross the distance threshold that countless cutting-edge scientists in his previous life could not break through.
Are there countless aliens in my own world? Has the Emperor watched?
He shook his head and looked at the warehouse door that was gradually opening, as well as other platoons and team-level soldiers marching outside.
"Come out!" Under the command of Alan Bayer, they finally left the cell. The space outside was very large. The real battleship corridor was enough for four people to pass side by side, which was larger than their rooms.
And there are real windows. When Alan Bayer looked out from the window of the battleship, the dark green and blue planet was shining like a gem in the universe. The existence of the atmosphere gave her many beautiful features. Opal color.
Is this what the Emperor needs to protect? What a beautiful world. (End of chapter)
