Recommend some books

Recommend a few books

Patch: Don’t buy them all after reading the recommendations. It is recommended to buy a book first to test the water. They are all boring. I often feel sleepy after reading them

It was intensive some time ago I bought more than 30 books. At that time, I felt that my ability to think was limited by the limits of my knowledge. When the output content touched some lower-level parts, I began to feel less confident, so I looked for some relatively cutting-edge books. Sociological research, I hope it can be absorbed and improved.

I have briefly read it recently, and it seems to be effective, but I am more confused and maybe still not confident.

The group of friends said at that time that I would give you a recommendation after I finish reading it.

So, today’s recommendation is here.

"The Confucian-Legal State: New Essays on Chinese History"

"States, War and Historical Development"

"The Limits of Democracy"

These are Zhao Ding Xin's book, this old man grew up in turbulent times, and later went to the United States to study, became a disciple of the Chicago School, and gradually grew into a relatively cutting-edge scholar in the field of sociology in the world, different from the so-called colonialists, liberals, and meat horns. , these works of his really have something to offer.

Many classic works have become somewhat obsolete due to time. However, Mr. Zhao’s research is far from being obsolete because he has always been a pioneering scholar at the forefront of the world—none of his papers is groundbreaking. Yes, it's all opinions.

The recommended reading order is "The Limits of Democracy" first, then "The Confucian-Legal State", and finally "States, War and Historical Development".

By the way, an interesting thing is that my own cognitive system was shaped without knowing Teacher Zhao at all, but his self-written preface in "The Limits of Democracy" is exactly in line with my vast majority of opinions. Most of the understandings are similar to the worldview and values expressed by Mr. Cheng in this book. This is one of the reasons why I recommend his works to everyone.

"The Sources of Social Power" I very much agree with some of the views in Michael Mann's book. The work he has done in abstracting specific social behaviors into highly generalized theories is great, but social One particularity of academic research or social science research is that many scholars use their own value system as the basis and starting point for debate.

Therefore, many people think that Michael Mann's research is meaningless, 'just giving people licking anus', ha, everyone has different opinions.

Reading, what is in the book is not necessarily the truth, and the limitations therein have multiple dimensions, the limitations of the author, the limitations of the readers, the limitations of the times, the limitations of expression, a simple summary You can lift a bunch of them in one go.

So, the works I recommend that are relatively less powerful in terms of environmental degradation do not mean that they are golden rules. Everyone will be somewhat critical when reading them.

"The Irony of Reason, Introduction to Weber's "Protestant Ethics and the Spirit of Capitalism"" by Li Fangchun

Yes, this is an introduction and summary book. Weber is a sociologist. One of the three founders, I can’t stand his works, I really can’t stand them.

This is not shameful. Some so-called literary young people have a chain of contempt and feel that they are not qualified to speak if they do not read some large books. However, this thing is not shameful at all, so everyone might as well read this introduction by Professor Li Fangchun. .

Some of Weber’s views focus on the cultural field, and because of the inherent conservatism of culture and religion, his research more than a hundred years ago can help us see clearly many aspects of the United States and even Western Europe The question now is, of course, this book is an introduction, and I have only read half of it.

Ha, it’s just a glimpse. I have to code words every day, so I can only read it slowly.

In short, these are probably the five books, all of which focus on the field of sociology. It’s not that I prefer these, and it’s not that I want to throw away the book bag. In fact, as an author, I need to shape the world and society in my writing. , so I am more inclined to strengthen myself in the field of sociology.

Bow!
