Chapter 220: Stop the War
“Kill!”
After one word, the savage throbbing of various melee weapons drowned out the shrill war cries of the miners.
Without any words, the Astral Knights ruthlessly slaughtered the attackers.
The Holy Flame Sword is the most efficient weapon among them. It roars to cut through clothes and bones, burns the flesh and blood, and scorches the wound while cutting off the head.
Soshyan used it to swing a series of short and swift blows in the cramped space of the tunnel. The limitations of the space only made his killing more cruel, and the silver-gray armor turned into dripping bright red in a moment.
The end is as sudden as the beginning.
The damaged tunnel was cleared in an instant. The Space Marines stopped one after another, and thick lines of coagulated blood slowly dripped from their armors.
They said nothing during this process, and there was only the harsh sound of breathing in the communication system.
“Injury Assessment.”
After a simple inspection, it was found that except for the fact that the boy was frightened and almost fainted, everything was basically normal. Even during the bloody battle, Armin did not let a drop of blood splash on the boy's body.
“Keep moving.”
Although they were mercilessly slaughtered, these heretical miners did not give up.
When they came to the main tunnel of a settlement shaft, the ambush intensified.
The journey through the mine turned into a mixture of blood and excitement of battle. The miners covered with body armor came in waves with despair. Their sharp blades and mining picks flashed and howled in the flickering tunnel lighting. The voice was hoarse and harsh.
When they reached the bottom of the tunnel, Soshyan could already hear the faint sound of running water.
The destination is right in front of them.
This is a wide underground cave with a large number of stalagmites growing on the ground and on the top. A gurgling river flows through the cave, looking like a giant python with shining scales in the dim light.
There are many low houses on both sides of the river. They are crowded together at different heights, reminding Soshyan of the slums of the hive city.
On the rock walls farther away, there are many luminous plants and fungi growing, which is where the light source in the cave comes from.
Different from the mines, there is no such hot feeling here, nor the ubiquitous chemical stench, only the most primitive humidity and darkness.
Soshyan also noticed that when he stared at the ends of the stone pillars, there were many black things hanging, like bats hanging upside down. The black mass made people feel palpitating, as if they were awakened. There will be a disaster.
Generally speaking, a cave like this should be home to many nocturnal animals.
Then Soshyan noticed a rather large pyramid-shaped building at the end of the cave.
If nothing else happens, the target they are looking for is right there.
"Cover forward."
Just as Soshyan pointed at the facility with the sword in his hand, a wave of heretics sprang out from the bottom of the cave.
The Astral Knights did not stop. They rushed into the crowd. The original gun battle quickly turned into a close-quarters fight, pushing each other.
Soshyan wielded his sword and cut his way through heretics and traitors.
During this process, he saw some people wearing broken guard uniforms or ritual clothing. Everyone had the same mark on their face, and some people's marks were bloody.
They smell bad, have black eyes like glass, and never blink.
What's more important is that even in the face of the Astartes, they are still not afraid of death, and they are simply not like mortals.
A knife slashed Soshyan's gauntlet, and he then fired back at the unknown subjects with sword and pistol, beating them to pieces.
In the brief moment of slashing and poking, he could see Thor's leisurely harvesting pace. He was like a farmer working in a wheat field, efficient and boring.
The crowd still lingers.
Soshyan hit someone who was trying to bite him hard in the face with the butt of his gun, completely shattering the tattoo on the other person's face, and the person then fell at his feet.
Only after that did he notice that this was a woman, a young woman who looked to be only sixteen or seventeen years old, and she died so worthlessly.
"We are the Astral Knights Chapter under the Emperor's command! If you continue to hinder us from carrying out our mission! We will kill them all!!"
Unable to tolerate this situation any longer, Sosh Yang yelled.
To his surprise, he felt the pushing begin to slow down, the shouting also diminished, and the smell dissipated.
He looked around and held his breath. Those people were still around. But he looked a little surprised and confused.
“He just said the Emperor”
“Not the four-armed Emperor?”
“They don’t look like monsters either… …”
Soshyan suddenly realized a problem.
These people live underground all year round and may not have been to the surface for generations, which means their knowledge may be frighteningly lacking.
Not even aware of the existence of the Astartes.
But the problem is, they seem to understand High Gothic.
"We are the Emperor's emissaries, here to investigate the Genestealer sect and another heretic sect."
Soshyan asked the team members not to do anything yet, and then stepped forward.
These people were covered in blood, most of them were of the same kind, looking at the approaching giant in fear.
"He...he said the Emperor."
One of the men was finally pushed out by the crowd.
“The high priest is not here now, so we can’t make the decision.”
"High Priest?"
Soshiyan raised his head and glanced at the pyramid shrouded in shadow.
“You believe in a god called Lord of Crows?”
“No, the Lord is not a god.”
The man shook his head and said what he wanted to do Yang was surprised by the words.
"It is the Emperor's messenger, our protector."
"Have you seen it?"
"Only the High Priest can see the Lord."
"Is it there?"
Soshyan raised his hand and pointed to the building in the distance.
The man nodded.
“Take us to see it.”
“No, only the high priest can see the Lord.”
“We are also the Emperor’s emissaries.”
The man looked back at the crowd hesitantly, but no one spoke or took a stand. Everyone was obviously frightened by the killing just now, and they were only supported by fanatical belief and ignorance.
"I know that you have been fighting against the gene stealers, and so have we."
As he spoke, Soshyan took out several pairs of gene stealer claws from behind, which he originally planned to take back and give as gifts. Ford made the gift. After knowing that they were going to deal with the gene stealers, the biologist expressed to Soshyan that he hoped to get their famous pair of claws for research.
Seeing the sharp claw that Soshyan took out, everyone made a sound of surprise.
"This is the claw of a pure-blooded monster!"
"I have only seen it on the high priest..."
"Did he chop them all off?"
The man glanced at the bloody claws on Soshiyang's hand, hesitated for a while, and then nodded.
"I will only take you to the temple. Whether the Lord sees you or not is up to him."
