Chapter 14 Playing on occasion

Chapter 14: Just a joke

Just a joke, why take it seriously?

Although this analogy is not appropriate, it is just like "The Emperor's New Clothes". In fact, everyone understands that this is a show, and they are just the audience who cooperate with the performance. There is no need to expose the lie. Just let the show go on.

However, after all, someone is different, and a child who dares to tell the truth appears in the Hayworth Theater.

Looking at it roughly from a distance, that figure looks quite young, that is, in his early twenties. He should still be a fledgling, unable to flexibly switch his expressions, and unable to adapt to the situation. Occasionally, true feelings are revealed inadvertently.

Anson was a little curious, would that person tell the truth like a child from "The Emperor's New Clothes"?

He did not.

The figure looked around in astonishment, then gradually came to his senses, withdrew his gaze, lowered his head, hunched his body, and secretly prepared to leave.

It seems that he is not prepared to expose the performance, nor is he prepared to stay for a long time.

Anson found this scene very interesting——

It seems that Hollywood in 2000 still retains some vitality and edges, and not everyone is crawling at the feet of traffic and selling their souls.

Edgar-Cook was thinking that maybe, maybe, probably... he should leave.

As a junior agent, he had just transferred from an agent assistant to a formal agent position. He had no foundation at all, no connections and no customers -

Everything had to be started from scratch.

So, Edgar needed to rely on his own legs to travel throughout Los Angeles, from acting schools to independent theaters, from TV series sets to the streets.

Even when you are walking and eating, you need to be observant.

Perhaps, he can discover the rough stones that have not yet been polished; perhaps, he can discover the frustrated young actors; perhaps, he can discover the big-name actors whose relationship with their agents has broken down.

Opportunities are not something you have to wait for, but you need to discover, dig and fight for them yourself.

"Possibility" is created by oneself.

This afternoon’s “hole”, Edgar has no reason to miss——

In addition to James and Seth, the crew also has a group of actors who have no agents but have potential, and Edgar also has great expectations.

However, that’s it?

No way...

Whether his expectations were too high and he missed the point, or his personal ability was not enough to appreciate the performance in front of him, Edgar raised a soul torture:

Leave or stay, this is a question worth considering.

But what is the basis for judgment?

Intuition.

A top agent must trust his own intuition, his judgment on his clients, his judgment on the works of his co-directors, his career planning, etc., all of which must be based on his intuition.

If an agent doesn’t know what he is doing, even a top director or a top actor’s career will be ruined.

At least, this is what Edgar learned during his five years of working life at William Morris Agency and developed his own vision.

Although he has not had a single customer so far, Edgar believes that customers are more important than quantity and quality; and he believes in himself.

After all, he broke the odds of being chosen one in twenty and became the only lucky person to become a regular agent from an agent assistant in March.

At William Morris, everything depends on ability. Even within the same company, they are all competitors. Becoming a regular employee does not rely on luck.

The William Morris Agency, founded in 1898, is the only one among the five major Hollywood agencies with a century-old reputation.

The other four major brokerage companies’ operating hours combined are not as long as that of William Morris.

It is no exaggeration to say that William Morris witnessed the history of Hollywood and established the current Hollywood agent industry with many talents all over the world.

Although innovative artist management companies have come from behind to become the industry leader since the 1980s, the old and ever-strong William Morris made a wonderful turnaround in the 1990s, and at the dawn of the new century , these two companies are jointly ranked among the top five brokerage companies in Hollywood. One of the most far-reaching actions of the William Morris Agency was the invention of the mailroom:

As a place to train new talents, Michael Ice, the five founders of the Innovative Artist Agency and the former CEO of Disney, The careers of Michael Eisner and Jeffery-Katzenberg, founder of DreamWorks, all started here.

Now, all Hollywood agencies have set up mailrooms.

Edgar is no exception.

From starting in the mailroom of William Morris to becoming a full-time agent, it’s all step by step, all by myself.

Even though it has just begun, he has the confidence to rely on William Morris's signature.

As for the "hole", Edgar admitted that he was a little disappointed.

The same is true for drama, performance, etc., just like student works, rough, crude, pretending to be profound, and meaningless.

James Franco is indeed talented, but at present, he has not found the right way to use his talents.

Of course, it’s not James’s turn as a little agent to worry about; however, Edgar doesn’t think he needs to stay any longer, and he might as well have afternoon tea if he has this time.

Edgar chose to trust his instincts.

Stand up, bend down, try to avoid disturbing other people as much as possible, wave his sleeves and leave quietly without taking away a single cloud. Then, he noticed:

A gaze.

Just like a prey stepping into a trap and being targeted by a hunter, the hair on the back stood up instantly.

What's going on?

Edgar stood up straight, took advantage of the cover of the crowd, and quickly glanced around -

At this time, all the eyes of the audience were turned to the stage, and they were sending greetings to the actors and casts who took the stage for the curtain call. Applause, accompanied by screams, whistles and cheers.

It was noisy.

If there is something different, it will naturally stand out, like a sharp cone in a sack.

Then Edgar was found.

Aura.

This is Edgar's first impression. His face and facial features cannot be clearly seen among the crowd, and his eyes and gaze cannot be accurately described. It is just an impression.

Not ostentatiously, but he couldn't help but shift his gaze, wanting to take another look.

Those eyes, even if they noticed Edgar's gaze, did not deliberately avoid it. Instead, they gently raised their chin and nodded, with a smile in their eyes.

Edgar, a little embarrassed.

At this time, I realized that I was sneaking around. It was so rude to be caught sneaking around and preparing to leave.

Of course, you can still leave. Even if you are caught on the spot by James Franco, it will be fine. Isn’t it true that the show is over and others are not allowed to leave?

But as his thoughts turned around in his head, Edgar put down his steps, stood up straight again, and looked towards the stage. He thought that maybe there would be an unexpected gain.

Anyway, the show is over, the hardest and most painful part is over, and it won't be worse if you stay.

One second he was ready to leave, the next second he reversed his decision, and the ballet turns were disappointing, but Edgar didn't have any psychological burden -

It's just a joke, isn't it? Is this the basic rule of survival in Hollywood?

Dear book friends and new entertainment authors, I beg you to collect them! Everyone must not keep books, because the current recommendation position is directly linked to the number of readers, so if you keep too many books, you will easily die! Qimao is here to kneel down and beg all the big guys, mainly to keep up with updates, and to supplement education, I beg on my knees!
