Chapter 2 Meditation
When he woke up from his sleep, rubbed his eyes and looked at the window, he realized that the sun was almost setting outside.
Ronan's first reaction was to cook quickly, otherwise it would be too uncomfortable to cook with candles when it gets dark.
And he was really hungry right now.
After washing his hands with water from the water tank, Ronan took out the grain left behind by his predecessor - a multigrain grain mixed with quinoa, corn, black beans and various other things he could not identify.
This thing is probably only worth a few copper coins outside, but in the wizarding land of Hoddam, one pound of magic stone is required.
A piece of low-level magic stone can break out a hundred magic stone grains, which means that a piece of magic stone can only buy a mere 100 kilograms of this coarse grain.
I have to say that prices in Wizarding Land are ridiculously high.
Ronan scooped two spoonfuls of grains and threw them into the small pot, then added some water.
While the rice was cooking, I cooked myself a bowl of soup using the wild mushrooms I picked up in the forest and a few pine pigeon eggs.
Multigrain rice paired with mushroom and egg drop soup, a simple dinner is ready.
When people are really hungry, they don’t care about the texture and taste, as long as they can fill their stomachs.
When Ronan had eaten and drank enough and slowly walked out of the tree house with a chubby belly, the sky outside was completely dark.
The night sky above turned into a deep blue, while the surrounding forest gradually began to glow with stars, without appearing dim.
A large number of small creatures suspected to be fireflies flew out of the ground, in groups, like dandelions blown open by the wind, making the quiet night look as beautiful as a fairy tale dream.
What a pity
“Bang!”
Ronan slapped his arm hard, killing a mosquito.
"There are so many mosquitoes in this damn place at night."
The robe he wore could not protect him from mosquito bites. Ronan only stood at the door for a short time when he was covered in bites.
He hurried back to the cabin with bared teeth.
After a while, he came out again.
Ronan reappeared, sprinkling a large amount of insect repellent powder on his robe, and holding a small net bag and a translucent white gauze bag in his hand.
Ronan climbed on the branches of the old oak tree and used his net to catch the fluorescent lights dancing around in the night.
This small firefly-like creature is actually not difficult to catch. After a while, the gauze bag in Ronan's hand was filled to the brim.
"Forty is only forty, that should be enough."
Ronan was hesitating whether to continue, when suddenly, the sound of someone walking by and talking was heard not far away.
Ronan suddenly became alert and subconsciously wanted to hide back in the tree house.
It's a pity that it was a step too slow after all.
Two figures, one tall and one short, appeared from the woods.
Through the moonlight and the dim light of fireflies, one can see a man and a woman in long robes, talking and walking side by side, as if they were taking an evening stroll.
Ronan's body was frozen on the branch of the tree, holding the net bag and gauze bag in his hands and not daring to move. Sweat was pouring from his forehead, and his brain was spinning rapidly
Fortunately, the other party just glanced at him lightly and then looked away. Go and disappear in the woods in a blink of an eye.
"call--"
When the two figures were completely gone, Ronan breathed a sigh of relief, and his tense muscles slowly relaxed.
Then I felt extremely depressed.
“I’m almost a frightened bird...”
"It's still because the strength is too weak."
Ronan sighed and had no intention of catching any more bugs. He quickly returned to the tree house with his things.
Blow out the candles lit in the room, hang the gauze bag filled with fireflies on the roof beam, and a simple "light bulb" is ready.
Unfortunately it only lasts one night.
When daylight comes, all the bugs in the bag will be dead.
Ronan stared at the homemade gauze bag for a while, and saw the bright yellow glow of fireflies filling the whole cabin as softly as water. Both the lighting effect and the beauty were far superior to candles. Then he looked back with satisfaction. He sat down at the round oak table in front of him. At this time, the table was already covered with books, all left behind by his predecessor.
Ronan mainly read four of them——
"Basic Meditation"
"Encyclopedia of Zero-Level Spells"
"Rune Literature: A Collection of Ten Commonly Used Zero-Level Runes"
"Basics of Potions"
These four books are now his most valuable possessions.
The predecessor spent almost all the magic stones he brought from home in exchange for the four books in front of him from Hoddam Wizarding Academy.
These four books represent knowledge, inheritance, and are also the keys that can open the door to wizards.
A large part of the wizards gathered in Hoddam Wizarding Land are students of Hoddam Wizarding Academy.
The admissions standards of Hoddam Wizarding Academy are not strict. Basically, as long as you have money to pay tuition, you will be admitted.
To study in a college, choose courses, attend lectures, eat, and stay. Everything costs money.
Once all the magic stones on your body are spent, it will "invite" you out again just as easily as when you came in.
Therefore, there are many students from Hoddam Wizarding Academy, but there are very few students who can be truly recognized by Hoddam Academy. Once you have this honor, it is synonymous with strength and genius.
"This is not like going to school, but more like a business."
Ronan muttered a few words, then casually opened the black cover of "Basic Meditation" in front of him.
Spiritual power is the foundation and core of the wizard's power system, and meditation is the main way to improve spiritual power. Its importance is self-evident.
Ronan has tried "meditation" several times in the past two days, but never succeeded. Every time he felt a little worse.
He didn't seem to integrate the experience and insights of his predecessor into this part at all, so he could only start over as a complete novice.
"..Empty your mind, abandon distracting thoughts, and focus on one point."
Ronan read the steps described in the book.
After reading it, I closed the book, closed my eyes, and went through it silently in my mind a few times, and relaxed my mind along the way.
When Ronan felt more confident, he stood up, took a sip of water, washed his hands, and then his face.
Then he took off his shoes and sat cross-legged on the small bed where he slept.
In fact, there are no specific requirements for the body posture of wizards when meditating. They can lie down or face down.
But Ronan tried it, and it was easy to fall asleep that way.
When I went to bed, a corner of the thin blanket that was cushioned under me was accidentally torn open, and a line of small writing was revealed.
"The soul is the destination of immortality."
Ronan read it out softly, his expression slightly strange.
This sentence is the opening chapter of "Basic Meditation Techniques" and is a famous aphorism widely circulated in the wizarding world.
The meaning is to warn everyone who embarks on the path of a wizard that spiritual power is the focus of practice, and the pursuit of immortality of the soul is the real immortality.
Now it is carved on the bed board as a warning to myself.
It was obviously not carved by the predecessor, because the handwriting looked a bit old.
Perhaps it was the previous owner of this cabin, or the previous owner.
Ronan started to think about it. In a long time ago, the same cabin, the same dim light, the same bed board.
A young man about his age was sitting in the same position, alone, meditating silently, dreaming of one day walking out of the tree house area and entering the academy
After thinking this way, Ronan had some inexplicable feelings in his heart. Bravery and motivation.
He gained inexplicable encouragement and strength from this accidentally discovered line of handwriting. The sequelae of the two consecutive days and nights of fear gradually subsided, and his mind completely settled down.
